Area: Ceramics
João Carvalho develops in the location of "Vila Praia de Âncora", characteristic art pieces in clay, specifically in the art of ceramics, which implicate some techniques that he had learnt when he worked with his "artisan master", learning all the secrets related to the argile paste, namely the art of moulding, embellishing and decorating.
He learnt how to shape argile, both manual and on the potters wheel, creating different objects, with different shapes and sizes.
Mr. João Carvalho's hands: prodigious; "sentimental"; wise, draw accurate movements, in harmony with the potter's wheel, in slow and fast, delicate and harsh, up and down movements, which can give form, volume and size to something dead and unshapely.
Jug's, plates, jars, cups and saucers, besides the vast range of tiles painted with typical motives of the region ("Alto Minho"). These are pieces of art shaped by these artisan with great care and dexterity.
Although his "soul mate" is effectively argile, he doesn't turn his back on a "wood task", where he to shows great skill, on the developing of various shapes, with evidence to the beautiful yet invulgar niches with Saints, of small dimensions, showing great detail and high skill.
